Throwback: Witting Surgical Center at Crouse Hospital
We tend to share a lot of our finished work around here, and with good reason. We’re proud of what we build. But we don’t spend nearly enough time sharing the nitty gritty details of what actually goes into bringing our buildings to life. We have a backlog of in-progress photos over the years that we’d like to intersperse with our current work to show you where we’ve been and where we’re going.
For starters, who remembers when we were just getting started on the Witting Surgical Center at Crouse Hospital back in the winter of 2009? A challenging build, basically between a rock and hard place, that included landing and protecting new HVAC equipment in the basement of the new project while constructing the cast-in-place building around it, removing the existing air shaft servicing the whole hospital and creating a new temporary air shaft for ventilation to avoid disrupting critical services, and pouring multiple elevated concrete decks up against the exterior wall of the active existing operating room suite.
The finished Center is a 110,000 square foot four-story expansion and renovation that houses four operating rooms, a 15-bay post anesthesia recovery area, a six-bed pre-operation patient holding suite, and an over-sized operating room that can accommodate specialty surgical cases, equipment and technology.
