SCOPE
The Barnes Center at The Arch represents a total commitment to the University community’s holistic student experience and brings all things wellness under one roof, offering everything from health clinics and dog therapy, to a multi-level fitness center, lap pool, climbing wall, and even a state-of-the-art e-sports room.
We had three full-time superintendents on site for the duration of the project, along with several project engineers and an MEP manager, coordinating the work of anywhere from 80 to over 200 people.
As to be expected with such a big project, there were some interesting challenges that arose. Design and construction running concurrently, inadequate soil to bear the building expansion, winter concrete pours, temporary structure, excavating for storm and sewer lines, and reinforcing foundations within the existing structure all created opportunities for schedule slides. But, despite the odds, we completed the building on time for the start of the 2019 school year.
