SCOPE

The Rathbun Lofts is a historic building located in the bustling Baggs Square neighborhood in Utica, NY. Over 100 years old, the building has been home to a clothing wholesaler, auto parts retailer, and a medical supply manufacturer over the years. Now it has been reinvented into three upper floors of luxury residential lofts, with a bottom floor available for office and potentially retail space. The floors and ceilings are largely original to the space.

SCOPE

The former Empire Farm Brewery in Cazenovia was acquired by Feldmeier Equipment, the stainless steel tank manufacturer that provided the original tanks in the facility. The Hayner Hoyt Corporation was hired to renovate the facility. What is now Meier's Creek Brewing Company, acts as a showcase for Feldmeier products and offers a new brewpub experience in Central New York.

We installed windows in the wall separating the bar from the brewing tanks allowing patrons to better connect with the brewing experience. All interior finishes were updated along with the kitchen. The outdoor seating area was expanded, parking lot paved, and additional landscaping was added.

ARCHITECT

Bell & Spina

SCOPE

Working with Bell & Spina Architects in a design/build capacity, SRC hired us to renovate an existing 45,000 square foot warehouse that also contains some offices. Over the course of eight months, we built a mezzanine in a section of the open warehouse space to create two levels of offices, updated the existing offices, and created a welcoming reception area. To round out the state-of-the-art office facility, we also installed a massive back-up generator, cooling tower, and electric car charging stations.

SCOPE

Developer David Yaman, in partnership with California-based soil company Bio365, signed a lease to take on a vacant warehouse space in Cortland. We were hired to build an additional 30,000 square foot adjacent warehouse to provide more manufacturing space as well as offices and locker rooms. The warehouses will serve as dirt processing facilities to create nutrient-rich soil suitable for growing organic produce. Despite the challenge of winter weather and temporary site shutdown due to coronavirus safety precautions, we were able to complete the project on-time and within budget.

SCOPE

Geneva Towers, one of Upstate Medical University’s residence halls, is undergoing extensive HVAC renovations. The building remains student-occupied throughout the renovation so we are working in phases. Essentially, we are replacing the existing VRF heat pump system which required each floor to have a roof-mounted air-cooled condenser with two new cooling towers. So, instead of 21 units, when the project is complete, the entire building will be serviced by two new water-cooled heat pump systems each weighing in at almost 6,000 lbs and measuring 33 feet long.

ARCHITECT

Geiger Engineers

SCOPE

The Carrier Dome is a 50,000-seat multipurpose stadium that serves Syracuse University’s athletics department and campus. Working with Geiger Engineers, we replaced the original air-supported fabric roof with a cable truss system clad with a mix of rigid panels and tension membrane which allows natural daylight inside the stadium. The design also features an external steel crown truss which is supported on a concrete ring beam that encircles the Dome, effectively changing the Syracuse skyline. The new roof is designed to support more than 7,000 tons of snow.

In addition to the roof replacement, the sound and lighting systems were updated, air conditioning was installed, ADA accessibility measures were taken and other improvements were made to locker rooms, bathrooms, and concession stands. The stadium now features one of the largest center-hung scoreboards in the country.

Overall, the Dome received a roughly $118 million dollar facelift and was completed on schedule, despite significant challenges due to COVID-19.

Nautically themed with a prime location on the beach, it has 100 slot machines, indoor and outdoor lakefront dining options, three bars, an expansive patio, an outdoor area for live entertainment, and an impressive 50 foot tall lighthouse.

The project included a unique dual pitched circular foundation to support a 40 foot tall, 300,000 gallon stainless steel water tank. Food grade stainless steel process pipes run to and from the tank allowing the water to be used for production or fire protection.

ARCHITECT

King + King

SCOPE

If you’re looking for a true transformation, the Oswego Health Behavioral Health Services facility project is truly remarkable. Starting with a vacant and neglected former Price Chopper, we completed a total gut renovation to a 42,000 square foot facility and turned it into a state-of-the-art behavioral health clinic complete with 32 inpatient rooms and comprehensive outpatient support spaces. The facility offers comfortable interior areas, secure outdoor spaces, and a kitchen. A highlight of this building is the stone façade completed by our affiliate Doyner Masonry along with two approximately 2,000 square foot court yards cut into the building. The completed facility will serve as a new model of care, truly transforming the healthcare options available in Oswego County.
